The Poetry Café
Regular events

There are poetry readings, some of which include music, on almost every night of the week (except Sundays, when the café is closed). Many of these are regular weekly, monthly or bi-monthly events but there is also some room in the calendar for one-off readings, book or magazine launches, spoken word events, etcetera. Detailed below are the events at the core of our regular programme.

Poetry Unplugged

Now  over 10 years old, this is London's premier poetry open mic night. Every Tuesday, sign up between 6-7pm. The event starts at 7:30pm. Hosted by Niall O'Sullivan. "Then a first-time reader is announced, the host hollers: "Next up, a Poetry Unplugged virgin!" and a roar of approval spreads throughout the intimate audience, a cheer louder than anyone would rightfully expect to emanate from 50 people." David Bryant, Morning Star

Poetry @ 3

For poets who like to come out and play during the day. Sign up between 2.30 and 3 to read 4 mins of your poetry. Limited spaces. Free. Hosted by Paul McGrane. Poetry @ 3 is 3pm, first Thursday of every month. Find Poetry @ 3 on Facebook.

Stanza Bonanza

There may be blood, there WILL be poetry. Each month, two of the Poetry Society's leading Stanzas join up for a cracking night of poetry. Six poets from each Stanza. Free entry and everyone welcome! More details here.

Exiled Writers INK

Fourth Friday

8pm, fourth Friday of every month. Booked poets, singers, songwriters and musicians - known and not so known. There is also an opportunity to hear voices from the floor. Hosted by Hylda Sims & Dix Schofield.

Loose Muse

Monthly evening for women writers of all genres. One or more guest readers plus floor spots. Hosted by Agnes Meadows.

Louche Women

A live poetry-chat show featuring poetry, singalongalouche, guests and live music. The audience is encouraged to bring 'A Thing' for the chance to win a prize. Co-hosted by Caroline Smith and Sue Kreitzman. For further details www.facebook.com/louchewomen

Tall-Lighthouse Open Mic

Free Monday night event from the popular poetry publishing press. It's a new home for poets, storytellers and singers to experiment with their art forms. www.tall-lighthouse.co.uk. Sign up between 6:30 and 7pm.

Platform 1

Platform 1 is an opportunity for up and coming poets to perform alongside established acts. Come along on the night to put your name down. Doors open at 7pm.

Lipped Ink

An intriguing combination of top performance poetry features, a guided visualisation meditation with open mic spots where you can ‘lip your own’ ink. Join your host Mark ‘Mr T’ Thompson as our doors open at 7pm on the first Friday of every month to be amazed by the power of words spoken.
