Visit our Poetryclass microsite for Fresh ideas for poetry learning from the Poetry Society

Poetry is a powerful tool for raising standards in literacy and developing language skills. It frequently releases untapped potential amongst students who are not confident in traditional narrative or essay writing. It also offers exciting challenges to targeted groups of students and through subject areas across the curriculum.

  • Free downloadable poetry lessons
Choose from many different poetry lesson plans and activities covering a range of key stages and aspects of poetry. Each lesson has been created by poets with extensive experience of work in schools. The poetry lessons can be explored using theme, key stage and poetry technique.
"I often use the resources you have on your website which are inspirational and work fantastically in a classroom."
  • Support for young poets
If you are looking to signpost young students on to poetry resources which they can access themselves, then the Poetry Society's Young Poets Network has a wealth of information, features, writing exercises and competitions aimed at young people up to the age of 25, but with a special focus on 13-19 year olds.
